Kate once again has shown her precociousness by entering into the "Terrible Twos" about five months early. She spent so much time in "time out" today that it almost seemed easier to just keep her there permanently. She's taken to hitting, throwing things, stealing toys and generally being a first class stinker. She's also a total sweetheart and loves to give hugs and kisses - especially after she had a time out for hitting someone. She'll say "eyes sor" (translation: I'm sorry or maybe "my eyes are sore" - see pink eye story below) and give Maya a hug after she's whacked her and stolen her puzzle. Her emotional roller coaster can be exhausting and I'm sometimes tempted to pretend I didn't just see her throwing a puzzle at me so I don't have to put her in the 300th time out of the day. But, then I see her eying me as if to figure out if Mama is really serious about the whole not hitting business and I drag her over to the time out chair again. Maya is edging towards the "Terrible Twos" and occasionally acts out and gets put in "time out" - but mostly it's just Kate right now. God help me when they both are in the thick of it!
In other cheery news we've been passing a case of pink eye back and forth to each other for three weeks now. I finally thought we were all through with it when I noticed Maya had goopy eyes again after her nap. My eyes feel a little itchy again now, too. Unfortunately since this is a bacterial infection we won't build up a resistance to it so it's possible we'll just have pink eye from now until the girls learn not to rub their eyes (age 4 or 5?). I have a call in to the doctor - maybe there's some super strength eye drops we can take that will work this time.
At least it didn't snow today - though I think the high temp was 40 and there was still snow on the ground, so we were stuck in the house. I know I'm being a wimp about the cold, but I just don't want to deal with winter clothing right now. The weather is supposed to be nice by the end of the week - maybe our pink eye will be better then, too. Hey, a mom can dream!
