Strangers are scary...

Today was the first day that I saw either of the babies react to being held to someone they didn't know. I've always been able to comfort the babies better than other people, but they've never actually cried just because someone was holding them who they didn't know. A new friend came over today and was holding Kate who was happy and burbling until she looked up and noticed that the person holding her was someone she didn't recognize - and then burst out crying. This shouldn't be a welcome development, but in some ways it was kind of gratifying that Kate definitely now can differentiate between me, the person who has been her non-stop companion and caregiver since she came home from the hospital, and a total stranger!
